A lot of events starting up in the next few weeks within driving distance from Deer Ridge. Let’s look.
Free Junior Ranger Day
April 25th sees this unique opportunity for families with younger children to enjoy a variety of free nature activities managed by the National Park service. Free Junior Ranger Day goes from 10:00AM to 2:00PM and you can find activities set up at the Sugarlands, Cades Cove and Cherokee visiting centers. See more on this at http://www.seviernewsmessenger.com/2015/04/20/great-smoky-mountains-junior-ranger-day/.
Dolly Homecoming Parade
One of the biggest reasons to come to the Smokies in early May is the Dolly Homecoming Parade on May 1st in downtown Pigeon Forge. From Stoplights #3 to #6, dozens and dozens of awesome floats will parade down the main parkway of the city, ending with Dolly herself as the Grand Marshal of the event. http://www.mypigeonforge.com/events/dolly-parade/
Sevier County Days at Ripley’s
Starting May 3rd, all of Ripley’s attractions in downtown Gatlinburg will be only $5 a person as part of their “Sevier County Days” local appreciation. This includes Ripley’s Aquarium, Haunted Adventures, Guinness World of Records and the rest. www.ripleysgatlinburg.com.
Dollywood Barbeque & Bluegrass
The second festival for the Spring season at Dollywood is returning on May 23rd and is going on until June 7th for 2015. It’s exactly what it says on the tin, a huge festival featured the best barbecue meals and the best bluegrass performers you can find in nearly marathon-style sessions. See more at www.dollywood.com.

If this doesn’t inspire a plan to visit the Smokies soon, nothing will.
Dollywood has re-opened over the weekend for the 2015 season with perennial favorite “Festival Of The Nations”. This year the headlining act is “Rhythm of the Dance”, at the main theater on park, while many newer performers like “Timber!” and the “Alash Ensemble” play at venues throughout alongside returning favorites like Zebra Stelzentheater and Atahualpa coming back again.
This year also marks the 30th anniversary of Dollywood here in the Smokies and many new changes are expected this year, from the opening of their new multi-million dollar “DreamMore” resort and new parking to new guest amenities, new stages and much more you can see at http://www.dollywood.com/LPg/NewIn2015.aspx
So how can you top enjoying a weekend at Dollywood during Festival of the Nations? By making it a vacation package with Deer Ridge.

And we thought the Winter blasts of last year was bad! We didn’t quite get as much of the brunt of the atmospheric mess, but a lot of our neighbors up North and out West did. We know you’re looking forward to the return of warmer weathers, brighter skies and colorful expanses of nature more than we are, and Deer Ridge is committed to helping you get what you seek.
To make that happen, we are offering a slew of specials and discounts for March and April. Here’s a few of them:
And we also have these vacation packages that would be perfect for March and April:
Reserve these specials and see more at www.deerridge.com.
In addition to the specials we offer throughout the year, we also have year-round discounts that we make available for past guests, groups, veterans and more. If you haven’t seen our Discounts page, we’ll show you the details right here:

Ring in the New Year with your family and friends at Deer Ridge Mountain Resort. All registered guests are invited to gather for fun, food and beverages, prizes and entertainment from 9:00PM to midnight. We’ll listen to a popular Smoky Mountain bluegrass band, munch on snacks, and enjoy a champagne toast at midnight to welcome in 2015. Best of all, you’ll have just a short walk back to your condo when it’s over – no driving necessary!
Veteran’s Day is an important day to us here at Deer Ridge. Many of our staff have family or other significant connections who have served and sacrificed for our country by joining the armed forces, and it means as much for us to be able to celebrate the freedom they won us as it does you.
Deer Ridge therefore strives to make sure our military men and women are appreciated back home by offering the BEST military discount in East Tennessee – 27% off all our condos and cabins. No “ifs”, “ands” or “buts”, we just need to see your military ID to confirm and you and your guests are set to go!

Winterfest is a season of the Smoky Mountains that is, for all practical purposes, split into two sections – the Holiday season, and the “quiet” season.
The former is quite obvious – from early November to New Years day, the Smoky Mountains are in full swing celebration mode to bring families closer to the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years spirits (along with everything in between). We have several parades, one for each city in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, Dollywood transforms their entire park into a literal Winter wonderland, million-dollar lighting displays are put up throughout the cities, community choral events, holiday theater performances, and so many more special events, it would take years of repeated visits to see them all!
The latter refers to the after-holiday season that begins after the festivities. Naturally, after two months of solid special event planning, the area goes on an unofficial break period until March. Dollywood and the major special events go on hiatus, many of the arts and crafts and several other mainstream businesses around close for the season, and we see a marked reduction in traffic.
While it sounds like there isn’t much to do in that part of Winterfest, it’s a unique time for a unique atmosphere in the Smokies. We have several occasions throughout the year reserved for reflection, but this is the time it really comes alive. The cold air, the snow-peaked tops in the distance, and the stillness of the environment really create an air of dignity and a simple beauty you almost can’t get at any other time. It’s a great time to be hiking, planning a honeymoon weekend in Gatlinburg, or even breaking out the snowboard for nearby Ober Gatlinburg’s Winter Sports season as well.
At Deer Ridge, we don’t take a vacation, we work year-round to provide you with yours. Whether you come to the Smokies for a Christmas or Thanksgiving filled outing for the family, a chance to take advantage of the romantic qualities the Smokies offers in February, a weekend to get in the snowboarding and skiing up at Ober, Deer Ridge will accommodate all your wants and needs. We’re just 15-20 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, 30 minutes from Pigeon Forge, and 10 minutes from the newly opened Rocky Top Sports World.
See our discounts and other things we can offer you at www.deerridge.com.
Today is the start of August, but don’t get any ideas in your head about the “Summer blues” of going back to school and such – this year the Smokies are packing August with more special events than the month has seen in a long time!
Even today is the start of two of them – the fabled Sales Tax-Free weekend going on until the end of Sunday, August 3rd throughout the entire state of Tennessee, and Celebrate Freedom, of which the entire neighboring city of Pigeon Forge engages in a series of military discounts at businesses and attractions and, later in the month, special events designed to honor current serving and veteran officers of the armed forces.
Here is a list of recommended events going on in August:
Stringtime in the Smokies
Kidabra! The International Association of Family & Kid Show Performers Annual Convention
Smoky Mountain Songwriters Festival
Smoky Mountain Military and Relic Show
Welcome Home Vietnam Parade
And don’t forget, even if Deer Ridge is not in Pigeon Forge, we offer THE best military discount in all of the Tennessee Smokies! See what we can do for your August getaway at www.deerridge.com.
