We have had alot of requests for our Sunset Festival German Red Cabbage Recipe.
1 medium head of red cabbage shredded
1/2 red onion chopped
2 large red delicious apples chopped in large pieces
3-4 Tablespoons of butter or margarine
4 tablespoons of sugar
1 tablespoon of salt
1/4 cup of water
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup of red currant jelly
Melt butter in large skillet. Stir in cabbage, onion and apples, coat with butter, Add remaining ingredients all but the jelly and heat to boiling, when boiling, reduce heat cover and continue heatingn until vegetables are soft. about 40 minutes. When ready remove from heat and stir in jelly and allow to dissolve. Best when allowed to cool and refridgerated overnight and reheated for serving the following day.
